Versatile Toy
Posted 11/10/2008 by Teresa Winner

Rating:

The Dado Cubes were purchased as a birthday gift for my two-year-old niece. She (and her father) immediately began playing with the blocks. One of the reasons I chose this toy is was for the possibility of using them with other toys, such as Little People, Polly Pockets, and toy farm animals or in a doll house. Great toy! No computer chips or batteries needed (refreshing). Plenty of room for imagination.

Dado Cube Review
Posted 7/24/2008 by Sanjay Bulchandani

Rating:

It is a lovely product and I would have never found it had it not been for your site. It is well made, the colors are pretty and it provides my son with enough challenges. Also his effots to insert one block into the next has given me a window into his spatial abilities that I never had before.

I run a home daycare & the kids seem to enjoy playing with the Dados. The toddlers like to nest them & the older ones are creative & also copy the designs on the box. They don't hold the kids interest for as long of a period as I had hoped but are a great addition to our ever-growing load of toys.

Great for my little one!
Posted 6/30/2009 by Rebecca

Rating:

Setting: Home

I bought these because my 14- month- old girl likes "nesting" toys, and I thought these would be right up her alley. She does like the blocks, especially when they are stacked on the pyramid plastic part of their packaging. The packaging is great for keeping them organized, and it helps the blocks fall in the right direction when she nests them. She seems interested in the shapes and colors, and has managed a few times to connect the blocks with the slits. She always is eager when I pull out these blocks and even brings them to me to open for her. These seem durable, and I'm sure they'll last her a long time. For now they are getting pretty good action, and I hope when she gets a little older, she will be able to learn new tricks with them. I can see her still playing with these in a couple of years. Keep in mind these blocks are meant for older children. The littlest cube could be a choking hazard. It should probably be saved for later, or a toddler playing with these should be closely supervised.

My four year old twins(one boy, one girl) both love this product. I bought the accessory kit too and they have really enjoyed building with all the pieces. The only way to possibly improve this toy is if they made a type of roof for the kit or hingeing doors. I would definitely buy this product again and give it as a gift!

Good but smaller than I thought

I purchased Dado Cubes for my son's 1st b-day. He already has Melissa & Doug stacking blocks, so I thought these would be a great addition. This product seems fun, he isn't getting much use out of them now but I'm sure once he gets older he will. Only problem was that the cubes were smaller than expected.

Dado Cubes Are Winners
Posted 8/25/2008 by Kate Stolarczyk

Rating:

My 13 month old enjoys taking the cubes out one by one and spreading them all over his playroom. I've worked with him a few times to create various shapes and buildings. The other day I watched him begin stacking them on his own -- his first constructive effort so far. I have a feeling this toy will grow with him. All in all a good buy.

Great educational toy!
Posted 25 days ago by Mary L Tan

Rating:

The first time Isaw this product was in a children's museum. It encourages imagination and it already has a form. So for younger children, they can actually feel that they are constructing something, as opposed to some other similar building toys which do not have a form until you "create" it which as we parents know, is a hard task to accomplish for toddlers. This is what I have observed as reactions from younger children playing with it.

I love Dado Cubes. My 3 year old is so proud of the tall buildings he can make with them. My 15 month old is an expert at nesting them. I really enjoy playing with this toy as well. I am a stay at home mom, so I like to find toys that are enjoyable for us all. I feel this toy is a great investment, unlike other toys we have purchased in the past that quickly loose there appeal. I would like to have seen a better storage container for the blocks, that would be very handy.

Rating:

My two year old daughter loves the product. She likes to stack them on top of each other. She also uses them as nesting cubes. I've seen her categorize them according to color and descending size. Her tiny fingers have a difficult time "building" with the cubes. However, I suspect that within the year, this will not be an issue. I'm very happy with the purchase. It turned out to be a multi-use toy. Highly recommended!

Review of Dado Cubes

Rating:

I figured I couldn't go wrong with the Dado Cubes - The Blues because my two year old daughter loves to build and stack, and loves blue. I was right! She really enjoys playing with this toy and, so far, it keeps her interest for quite some time. Because she can do so many different things with the cubes, it's almost like a new toy each time she gets them out to play with them. Sometimes she likes to sort the pieces by shade while other times she builds towers, buildings, etc. I definitely recommend this toy for young children. I also bought the Cubes because they were not made in China.

This toy is excellent for our two children - ages 3 1/2 and 2 years. I try to find toys that are fun to play with and allow them to learn while playing. Dado Cubes is one of those toys. It is fantastic for them to build towers and they love the slanted ones - lots of "oohhs and ahhs."

We purchased this toy for our 3 year old grandson. He fell in love with it, so did his dad, so did everyone who saw it. This is a great toy for parents and kids to use together and for kids to use alone. There are lots of interesting challenges to stacking the cubes so that they stand up--this is a keeper!

DADO Cubes
Posted 5/19/2008 by Grandma Honey

Rating:

I purchased these for my 2.5 year old grandson, who had recently received the 2-dimension Dado disks and built enormous modular structures, which delighted in carrying around the apartment. He enjoys combining the sets and likes to spread out his structures. Although the cubes are easier to build with, he prefers the disks. Perhaps this is because he has so many and can build larger structures. In any case, I recommend them because they are easy to use, quite colorful, sturdy, and allow for imaginative play. I forsee him using these for many years.

Dado cubes engage a child for many hours, they are colorful and eyecatching. This toy promotes hand eye coordination and also works the hand and finger muscles. It makes the child think and figure out how to nest these cubes. However the nesting shape could hurt a child if the child were to fall on it

More Challenging Than Expected
Posted 4/16/2007 by Tabitha Olzinski

Rating:

I purchased two sets of these cubes to use at my center for children ages 3-6. My children aged 3 & 5 (who are my test subjects) have been playing with them for the past week. They were more tricky to construct with than they appeared in the ad. They also aren't very sturdy and fall over when touched. I think they spark creativity and have numerous configurations, but I am not as impressed with them in person as I was in reading about them.

i bought the dado cubes for my 2 1/2 year old son. he took to the bright colors and interesting material right away (the very light but durable plastic is not quite like any of his other toys)-- but as for playing with the cubes, so far all he does is separate them and re-nest them. when i show him how to build with them, he enjoys disassembling my castles, but shows no inclination to build structures of his own. i think this is a toy that he will grow into-- and that's a very good thing!

I purchased these blocks for my son who is 20 months old after he broke his leg. :( Even at this age these blocks are great. He loves to nest the smaller squares inside the larger blocks, and can stack them if turned sideways. Also I can build more complex shapes, like a tower, and he can drop smaller blocks or a ball through the openings.

A really interesting and fun toy for kids. I thought our 1 year old might enjoy them, but it's better for my 3 year old due to the materials. The hard plastic corners make it a little perilous for little guys. It would also be more fun to get more than 1 set since there is only 1 block of each size. Also, keep the plastic container they come in for storage.

Excellent product. My son is only 2, but he still has a lot of fun with this toy. He stacks cubes on top of and into each other. He has not gotten the hang of building anything with it yet, but I expect that to come over time. The toy is marked "from 3 and up," after all. He has problems getting the parts apart if I build something. I am afraid he may break something the way he tries to break them apart, but so far the cubes are holding up. The material may prove to be even stronger than I think it is!

I was very impressed with the durability of the product, strong plastic-not cardboard. Since both my 5 and 6 year old kids love blocks I thought they would enjoy manipulating and configuring these "cubes." I will say that yes, they enjoy playing with them. It does not seem to hold their attention for a long period. I'm not sure if that is because of their age or that they have trouble using their imagination to manipulate the cubes. I was disappointed in the cheap plastic container they came in. I was hoping I would not have to purchase another storage container for them. They stack with in each other so there is no way for them to be self contained without them being in some sort of box. I have spilled them twice taking them off the shelf. I do not regret purchasing them, I feel they are a timeless toy.

But for those like my child who really aren't that into it, I found this toy engaged them more than regular blocks. My child is very into puzzles, and I think he sees this more like a puzzle than a bunch of blocks. These are made from very sturdy materials.

Neat toy that's good for builders, but difficult to get the pieces lined up and connected right. It requires an adult to help manuever the pieces until they're locked, at least for 4 years and younger. I'm sure an older child could do it easily. Also, 10 cubes is not enough to build anything neat. You should buy at least 2 sets for it to be fun.

I loved it when my grandson turned the cubes into a multi-level parking garage and put a car or truck into each of the stacked cubes. He also really enjoys stacking them inside each other, and because they have no bottoms, he can nest them in any order, fitting each cube into its place. I really love this toy. It helps build children's spatial awareness and teaches them about balance in a different way then regular stacking blocks. You can build horizontally as well as vertically. This really is a beautiful toy as well. The colors remind me of the ocean and the shape is like a modern piece of art when constructed. I am a preschool art teacher as well as general preschool teacher and have watched many children in action with this toy. Some stack them, some sort them by size or shade, and the older children figure out how to balance and construct a building that is sturdy and sound both horizontally and vertically. The children can work together or alone problem solving. It is much more complex then you would think. It is challenging and rewarding to children of all ages. You can't go wrong with this classic toy with a twist!

She seems to have inherited her father's spatial abilities. We are certain she'll be spending more time with her Dado Cubes before long. We think this is a great teaching toy.

Small-Scale Fun

Ten beautifully-colored, progressively smaller (or bigger) cubes with small slits on each of their four sides that allow them to fit into each other in endless combinations and configurations. Fun and interesting for a while but the novelty wore off rather quickly for my 1.5 yr. old son (and me as well) and now he barely plays with it unless I set it out in front of him and put on a show of being throroughly engaged with it. Perhaps when he's a bit older (as the age suggested on the box - 3+ years), he'll be better able to appreciate its architectural potential. Personally I'd have liked it if there were more pieces, like if the set came with two blocks per size. The more the better? Yes. The more the merrier? Definitely.

For the participants in our program with good coordination, this activity is a great challenge...beyond just being a stacking activity.
The colors enhance the activity as well. My only concern is hard wear, and the thickness of the pieces. Time will tell whether they hold up to daily use/abuse. A similar set made of wood would be fantastic in terms of durability, I think.

I purchased these cubes for my 2 year old cousin, Ryan. He seemed very interested in primarily nesting these cubes, but hopefully he will be able to use them in other ways too as he gets older. The colors are very interesting. It would be even cooler if you could buy sets that had one color get lighter and lighter as the cubes get smaller, to thereby allow children to see that both volume and tone are variable in a set. The colors, while interesting, are random. The blocks are NOT random! [FAT BRAIN TOYS: Stay tuned for some exciting announcements regarding new Dado colors in February 2007!]

I bought this product for a new spin on building blocks. The blocks are very durable as my nine year old Autistic brother is able to actively play with these blocks and not break them. This is very important since he is special needs. It is also great that the items are so versatile. While regular blocks bore him easily, this item provides hours of entertainment time and time again. He loves that he can build in several directions and use the corners of boxes instead of just building up. I only wish it had a case for easy storage and transport.

When I first opened the box I was a bit disappointed in the simplicity of the product considering the price, but my almost four year old son immediately loved the boxes. They have turned out to be a great learning tool for big and small since there is one of each color and have helped him with dexterity since it takes a bit of practice to learn the stacking tricks. He took them with him to preschool and they were a big hit there as well according to the teacher. I am plesantly surprised with the end result, and his continued desire to play with this product that on first glance seemed ultra simple and boring...But it ended up being just the opposite in our house.
